Tarpishchev: “On the eve of the IOC presidential elections, there is progress in the world on the issue of admitting Russian athletes”

President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RFT) Shamil Tarpishchev said that in the near future progress could be made on the issue of admitting Russian athletes to world competitions.

The elections for the head of the IOC will take place in March 2025 during a session in Greece. The current IOC President, Thomas Bach, previously announced that he would not be re-elected for a new term. The list of candidates for the position of president of the organization included Sebastian Coe, Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr., Kirsty Coventry, Johan Elias, David Lapartian, Morinari Watanabe and Faisal al-Hussein.

— [ФТР] managed to reach an agreement with international organizations. This year we participated in 102 countries around the world and won first place in 71 of them. The ATP and WTA have signed agreements with all tournaments in the world on two points: all athletes are admitted according to their ranking and regardless of their nationality. The calendar is open, the global community of athletes has supported us.

But the issue of participation of our athletes in all sports deserves special attention. This is the subject of a separate report; we must consider this question separately. Cooperation options exist. As you know, the elections to the IOC will take place on March 16, so there is a possibility of progress in this direction, ”reports the correspondent of , reporting Tarpishchev’s words.
