National team tennis players Slovakia And Japan reached the quarter-finals of the Billie Jean King Cup, organized in Malaga (Spain).
The Japanese team beat the Romanian team (2:1 in matches) and the Slovak team sensationally beat the American team with the same score. In both cases, the outcome of the fight was decided by the duo match. Japanese Suko Aoyama/Eri Hozumi beat Romanian duo Monica Niculescu and Elena Gabriela Ruse – 6:1, 7:5. Americans Ashlyn Kruger and Taylor Townsend lost to Slovaks Victoria Grunčakova and Tereza Mihalikova – 3:6, 6:3, 8:10.
Team USA despite the titled composition (5th place in the world team rankings), has not won the main women’s team tennis trophy since 2017. The current winner of the Cup is Team Canada.
In the quarter-finals, the Slovak team will face the Australian team and the Japanese will face the Italians. The quarter-final matches will take place on November 16 and 17.
