The Slovaks will face Australia in the next round
Team Slovakia beat USA in the first round of the final tournament Billie Jean King Cup 2024 – 2:1.
In the first match, Taylor Townsend defeated 17-year-old Renata Yamrikhova in a tense fight. The American took two of her opponent’s serves in the first set, giving one of her own. In the second set, Taylor had one break but needed three match points.
In the second meeting, Rebecca Sramkova defeated Danielle Collins in two sets. The first set was easy for the Slovakian, but in the second game her opponents began to regularly lose their serves. After another break in the 11th game, Rebecca brought the match to victory.
In the decisive match, Victoria Grunchakova and Tereza Mikhalkova met with Ashlyn Kruger and Taylor Townsend. The first set went to the Slovaks, in the second game the Americans were stronger. The fate of the entire confrontation was decided by a super tiebreaker, where Mikhalkova and Grunchakova snatched victory only on the seventh match point.
The Slovak team will meet Australia in the quarterfinals. Let us remind you that another pair of 1/4 finals was previously determined – Japan passed Romania and will play with Italy.
