Earlier, Tsurenko beat Pashek, and on Sunday the rivals will switch places
Ukrainian Katarina Zavatskaya lost to the Austrian tennis player in three sets Signe Kraus in the second singles duel of the playoff match Billie Jean King Cup 2024.
The Ukrainian immediately took the lead 2:0, but her opponent seized the initiative, converted two breaks in a row and finished the game in her favor – 6:3.
The second set was marked by a dramatic plot and numerous breaks on other people’s serves. Kraus, trailing 0:1, led 4:1, then brought the score to 5:3 and served for the match, but Zavatskaya got her second wind: the Ukrainian, in a dominant style, took four games in a row and leveled the score in sets.
In the decisive game, Katarina was behind with a break, was able to return serve and had the opportunity to take the lead. However, none of the next eight break points could be converted; the Ukrainian then missed the 12th game and lost the match.
Let us remind you that the match confrontation began with the victory of Lesya Tsurenko over Tamira Pashek (6:3, 7:5). The score in the match became equal – 1:1
On Sunday, November 17, two more singles matches are planned, where the opponents will switch places: Tsurenko – Kraus and Zavacka – Pashek. If a fifth match is needed to determine the winning team, then in doubles Ukraine will be represented by Nadezhda Kichenok and Anastasia Soboleva, and Austria will be represented by the same Pashek and Kraus.
The winner of the Ukraine-Austria meeting will receive the right to compete in the qualification of the world finals in 2025.
