Medvedev on 2nd round win in Cincinnati: ‘I’m glad I went further, I hope to improve my game in the next games’

Russian tennis player Daniel Medvedev said he took advantage of the opponent’s problems with serve in the second round match of the Masters series tournament in Cincinnati (USA), and also expressed hope that he would be able to add in the next matches.

The first racket in the world Medvedev in the opening match of the tournament beat Botik van de Zandshulp from the Netherlands – 6:4, 7:5.

“The first set was great. Everything worked. In three games, I had break points, but I managed to take his serve right away, it was enough. The second set wasn’t so perfect.

Today the opponent didn’t serve very well, made a lot of double faults. So I tried to keep putting the pressure on, to try my luck. As for the reception, I did a good job. Two breaks on these fast courts are enough to win, I should have served a little better myself. But the first match is difficult, and I’m happy to have managed to go further. I hope the quality of the game will improve in the next matches,” Medvedev told the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) website.

Van de Zandshulp committed 11 double faults during the game.

“It happened to me in some tournaments. For some unknown reason you just can’t hit the second serve, I’ve had this problem a few times. Maybe there was something with the balls, which became heavier due to the humidity,” added Medvedev.

In the next match, the Russian will play with the winner of the confrontation Denis Shapovalov (Canada) – Tommy Paul (USA).
