Monfils out of US Open due to foot injury

French tennis player Gael Monfils announced that he will not participate in the US Open due to a foot injury.

The athlete, who occupies the 22nd place in the world ranking, was injured during the match of the third round of the tournament of the Masters series in Montreal. Monfils had previously undergone foot surgery. The tournament in Canada was the first for the 35-year-old Frenchman since May.

– Unfortunately, according to the results of the latest medical examinations, I will not be able to play in the US Open this year. I will have to go through another period of treatment before I can compete again,” Monfils wrote on Twitter.

In 2021, Monfils reached the third round of the US Open, where he lost to Italian Yannick Sinner.

The US Open will be held in New York from August 29 to September 11.
