Medvedev on access to the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Masters: “In the first set, Fritz was better than me”

The world’s first racket Daniel Medvedev after defeating Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals of the Masters series tournament in Cincinnati (USA), he called himself and the excellent American pitchers, noting that Fritz played better in the first set.

In the match to reach the semi-finals, the Russian defeated Fritz (11th seed) with a score of 7:6 (7:1), 6:3.

“I’ve always liked fast pitches and balls in Cincinnati. But there are always tough games here, especially between two great pitchers. I feel like Taylor and I did a good job, even though we are not John Isner. I knew it would be a tough game.

In the first set, he was a little better than me. He had a lot more chances than me on my serve, but I managed to hold on. There were sets where I couldn’t enter the court, and nobody talked about it, it would be normal. But I managed to stay in the draws, and that helped me win the match, – Medvedev quotes the official ATP website.

Medvedev also commented on his record at the Masters series tournaments. Now, the Russian tennis player has 20 tie-break wins with six losses.

The tie-breaks are great. We call it the lottery, and I think that’s kinda true. I remember having a crazy streak in 2019. I think someone once told me that I won a lot of tie-breaks in a row. I just try to do my best and earn every point. You gain something and you lose something. But 20-6 is a good result, so I’m happy with that,” Medvedev added.

To reach the final of the tournament, Medvedev will face the winner of the meeting Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece, 4) – John Isner (USA).
