Polish citizen Anna Palus announced the decision to file a complaint against the Australian tennis player Nika Kiriosa for his comments during the Wimbledon final this season.
Kyrios, during the match with Novak Djokovic, demanded that Palus be removed from the match, claiming that judging by her behavior, she was intoxicated.
“The one in the dress, the one that looks like she’s had about 700 shots of alcohol, man!” Kirios said in this game.
Now the 27-year-old intends to prove the falsity of the athlete’s statements in court.
On July 10, 2022, I attended the Wimbledon tennis championship final with my mother. It was an event we had been looking forward to for some time. During the finale, Nick Kyrios leveled reckless and totally unfounded accusations against me. Not only did it cause significant damage that day, resulting in my temporary removal from the arena, but Kyrios’ false statement was broadcast and read by millions around the world, causing me and my family very significant damage and suffering.
I am not prone to litigation, but after much deliberation, I have come to the conclusion that I have no alternative but to have my lawyers file a defamation suit against Kyrios to clear my name. I hope Kyrios will reflect on the harm he has done to me and my family and come up with a quick solution to this matter. However, if he doesn’t want to do it, I intend to take it to court,” Palus quoted Sporting News.
Kyrios is currently preparing for the US Open, which is due to start on August 29.
