“The rules exist independently of the US Open. There was no desire to take Djokovic out” – Yanchuk

Honored Russian tennis coach Viktor Yanchuk believes that the former world’s first racket Novak Djokovic rightly not to participate in the US Open.

Djokovic announced on Thursday that he will not be playing at the US Open in 2022.

– It’s hard for me to say why exceptions to the rules should be made – they exist independently of the US Open. There was no direct desire to remove Djokovic. It is unfortunate that this is the case. That’s a shame. But no one is to blame here,” Yanchuk told the Championship.

Djokovic refuses to get vaccinated and has already missed the Australian Open. Foreign nationals must present proof of vaccination against COVID‑19 to enter the United States.

The start of the US Open main draw is scheduled for August 29.
