Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic announced that he will not participate in the US Open 2022.
– Unfortunately, this time I won’t be able to go to New York for the US Open. Good luck to my gaming friends. I will keep my good form and positive attitude and look forward to competing again. See you soon in the world of tennis,” the 35-year-old wrote on Twitter.
A few days ago, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) canceled the vaccination mandate for US citizens, raising hopes for the Serbian and his fans that it will soon be extended to non-citizens. On Wednesday, the CDC announced that citizens of other countries must prove they are fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine to enter the country.
Djokovic refuses to get vaccinated and has already missed the Australian Open. The Serbian tennis player is the winner of 21 Grand Slam singles tournaments.
The start of the US Open main draw is scheduled for August 29.
