Serena Williams Reveals How She Wrote Her Tearful Retirement Farewell Letter

American tennis player Serena Williams spoke of his emotions while writing a farewell letter on the occasion of his retirement.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner has announced she will be retiring after the US Open.

– It was very difficult. I was in Switzerland, sitting at a hotel table, typing a letter, deleting something, then after a bit of thinking I started writing again and cried. Tears streamed down my face as I remembered… It was really hard. I struggled with that for a while, then I said to someone, “Yeah, I’m going to cry more than once about this, but don’t think I’m sad.” They weren’t tears of sadness.

I started doing this from the age I can’t remember myself, and now I’m 40. You could say it was all for the same purpose. Therefore, the end of a career is very exciting for me. I was looking forward to this moment. I can’t wait to wake up one day and realize that I no longer have to worry about performing at such a high level and competing. I’ve never had to feel this before,” Williams quote Eurosport.

The current US Open draw will take place from August 29 to September 11.
