Serena Williams’ first day of US Open breaks attendance record

The opening day of the US Open became the busiest in tournament history, according to its official website.

29,402 spectators came to the evening session of the matches. Note that ‘most of them’ gathered to watch 40-year-old American Serena’s game williams who intends to retire after the US Open.

Earlier Monday, 41,930 tennis fans attended the afternoon match session. The cumulative figure of 71,332 was a record for the Grand Slam tournament in the United States for a match day.

In the first round, Williams defeated Danka Kovinic from Montenegro (6:3, 6:3). In the next game, the American will meet the second racket in the world, Anette Kontaveit.
