Estonian tennis player Anette Kontaveit confessed she was very excited ahead of the US Open second round match against the American’s former world No. 1 racket Serena Williams .
In the first round, Kontaveit defeated Romania’s Jacqueline Christian with a score of 6:3, 6:0. Williams defeated Danka Kovinic from Montenegro – 6:3, 6:3. Previously, the American had not ruled out that the US Open could be the last tournament of her career.
“I’m very excited, I was supporting Serena’s victory. Never played against her. I mean it’s the last chance. Better late than never.
I think the atmosphere will be amazing, I’m looking forward to the game. I think it will be one of those games where there will be no pressure on me. I will enjoy and play as well as possible that day.
I remember how she always fought, clenching her fists, she gives 100%. Serena is always tense on the pitch which I think is great,” Kontaveit quoted Reuters.
The meeting between Williams and Kontaveit is scheduled for the evening of August 31, starting at 7:00 p.m. New York time.
The US Open runs from August 29 to September 11.
