The winner of the Spartakiad in tennis doubles told how he managed to win the tournament by playing only one match

tennis player Amina Anshba in an interview with , she told how she and her partner Sophia Lansere managed to win the All-Russian Strongest Spartakiad in doubles, after playing only one match.

In the final of the All-Russian Spartakiad Strongest Doubles Tennis Tournament, Anshba and Lansere defeated Anna Ureke and Valeria Yushchenko with a score of 6:4, 6:2.

“We are very happy that the game ended in our favour,” Anshba told . “It was our first match of the whole tournament. Yes, it turns out that Sonya and I didn’t play a single match before the final. We weren’t allowed to relax. The match turned out quite long. We are happy that we were able to win at the end.

– Tell for those who only look at the results: how is it that you reached the final without playing a single match?

— It seems to me that it happened for the first time in history (laughs). In the first round we were seeded, and in the next two matches it turned out that the girls themselves literally refused two hours before the start. We found out at the last moment. For us it was a big surprise.

– You went to the tournament as favorites. Do you feel the status?

– Yes, we were considered the favourites. After all, Sonya and I played a couple together not for the first time. Of course, we had to prepare for every game, but we thought we could win, so we didn’t slack off.

– How do you like your opponents in the final?

– Quite difficult, even though they played together on the back line. It was quite difficult to do too much, to replay them. But we succeeded, which we are very happy about. The girls were tough.

– The winner of the men’s tournament, Ivan Nedelko, said that the Spartakiad was an incomprehensible tournament for him. And for you ?

“For me, this is one of the most memorable events. For Russian sports, this is a very important tournament. I’m glad I got to play there. Most of the time I play tournaments in Europe I had the opportunity to fly and play at Spartakiad, I consider this tournament quite important.

– What are your future plans?

– Tomorrow I fly to Almaty, I will play there. I don’t know either: either I’ll go back to Moscow and prepare for the next tournaments in Italy, or I’ll fly to Cairo.

– What do you think of Daria Kasatkina’s statement, in which she called for changing sports citizenship?

– It’s everyone’s choice. Honestly, it’s hard to answer this question. Everyone has a different situation. I would not change my nationality, I am happy to represent Russia. But everyone has their own opinion and I respect it.

The All-Russian Spartakiad of Tennis’ Strongest takes place in Moscow from August 22-28.
