Samsonova and Serena Williams advanced to US Open third round

Anna Kalinskaya failed to qualify for the third round of the US Open. The Russian tennis player lost to Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia in two matches.

The match lasted just over an hour, during which Kalinskaya gave up four plays on her serve.

The French tennis player’s next opponent will be determined in the match between Beatriz Haddad Maya and Bianca Andreescu.

Another Russian representative, Evgenia Rodina, lost a match in three sets to Australian Ayla Tomlyanovich, who will play with former No.1 Serena Williams in the next round.

Serena in her match in two and a half hours defeated the second seed, Estonian Anette Kontaveit. In three games, the American had 11 hits and won five games on reception.

Russian Ludmila Samsonova continues to fight in the tournament, having beaten Canadian Leyla Annie Fernandez in two matches. Samsonova has 10 aces and two service wins.

Samsonova in the third round will play with Serbian Alexandra Krunic.
