Two Ukrainian women continue to compete
two Ukrainians, Lyudmila Kichenok and Marta Kostyukadvanced to the second round of doubles US Open. For this, Martha had to knock out another Ukrainian woman from the competition, Hope Kichenok.
Lyudmila, paired with Latvian Elena Ostapenko, defeated Panna Uvardi from Hungary and Tamara Zidansek from Slovenia in three sets. The first set went to Kichenok and Ostapenko, in the second set the rivals triumphed in the tie-break. In the decisive set, the game also went to a tie-break, where the Ukrainian and Latvian were already stronger.
Marta Kostyuk paired with Zhang Shuai defeated Nadezhda Kichenok and Georgian Oksana Kalashnikova. Kostyuk and Shuai won in two sets.
Recall that Lyudmila Kichenok together with Ostapenko won the doubles of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati. The pair, seeded at the US Open at number four, will play in the second round against Anna Bondar (Hungary) and Gretje Minnen (Belgium).
Kostyuk and Zhang Shuai received the 11th seed. In the second round they will fight Teresa Mikhalkova (Slovakia) and Alexandra Sosnovich.
