‘It was a crazy match’ – Rublev on winning the US Open in a four-hour showdown with Shapovalov

Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev spoke about the victory over the Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the third round of the US Open. The match lasted over four hours and ended in five sets (6:4, 2:6, 6:7 (3:7), 6:4, 7:6 (10:7)).

“It was a crazy game. We both deserved to win. Probably, according to the results of these games, there is no winner. You can’t say that today someone was better and someone worse. Just an unreal match. I’m very happy that I could win, yes, there was a chance to win the deciding set with a score of 6:4 when I served for the match. But I am doubly proud of this victory after I couldn’t realize this opportunity,” the ATP press service quoted Rublev as saying.

In the next round, Rublev will face Britain’s Cameron Norrie.
