The record holder for the number of Grand Slams won lost in the third round of the US Open
famous tennis player Serena Williams completed her sports career. The American lost in the third round US Open Aile Tomlyanovic from Australia, after which she said goodbye to tennis.
The fight lasted over three hours. Serena missed her own serve at 5-3 in the first set, eventually losing it. In the second game, she also had the opportunity to win quickly, but did not convert four set points. Williams was able to put the squeeze on her opponent in a tie-break and move the match into a decisive set.
The American had no strength left for the last game. From the sixth match point, Tomlyanovic won the third set and the match as a whole.
“I am grateful to everyone who has been by my side these past few decades. It all started with parents. And I wouldn’t be Serena if it wasn’t for Venus,” said the legendary tennis player.
Earlier, Serena, along with her sister Venus, lost in the first round of the US Open doubles. The fact that the American Grand Slam tournament will be the last in her career, the younger of the two sisters announced in early August.
