Australian tennis player Nick Kirios says he wouldn’t be ashamed to lose to world’s number one racket Daniel Medvedev in the US Open fourth round match, noting the presence of a game plan against the Russian.
On Friday, Kirios beat American Jeffrey John Wolf in the third round of the US Open, Medvedev beat China’s Wu Yibin.
“Whether I win or lose, I will be happy if I stick to my game plan. I think my level is high now. Now, there are only a few players who play tennis at a higher level than me, if not at the same level.
There’s no shame in losing to a player like Medvedev. But I feel like I have a fighting chance. Few players can say that now they will play against Medvedev at the US Open. I think they enter the field without confidence in their victory. I am certainly one of those who have a chance.
I had wins over him, but that was a long time ago. At the Australian Open, I felt that my level was not up to par. I played poorly and he was at his peak. I just wasn’t close to the player I am now. That’s for sure. We respect each other a lot, I also respect his coach a lot. He’s a great guy,” Kirios told a press conference.
