Stakhovsky on the Davis Cup: Did the best sports manager in Ukraine fail to reach an agreement with the players?

Ilya Marchenko, Vitaliy Sachko, Alexei Krutykh and Denis Molchanov remained outside the blue-yellow bid

Former first racket of Ukraine Sergei Stakhovsky expressed his opinion on the composition of the national team of Ukraine for the Davis Cup match against Hungary.

“The Davis Cup match between Ukraine and Hungary, which will be held in neutral Vilnius, will be without the leaders of Ukrainian tennis (both in singles and in pairs) … Did the best sports manager in Ukraine fail to negotiate with the players?” Stakhovsky wrote on Twitter.

Recall that in January, Stakhovsky announced the end of his professional career, for which he won eight ATP titles in singles and doubles.

Apparently, Stakhovsky’s post is addressed to the vice-president of the Tennis Federation of Ukraine Yevgeny Zukin. It should be noted that the Ukrainian tennis players demanded that Zukin be fired from his positions in the Ukrainian Tennis Federation, the ITF Davis Cup committee, the ITF referee position and the deprivation of any powers in the International Tennis Federation.

The letter was signed by: Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Lesya Tsurenko, Katarina Zavatskaya, Lyudmila Kichenok, Nadezhda Kichenok, Sergey Stakhovsky, Ilya Marchenko. Subsequently, Katarina Zawatskaya withdrew her signature.

Such publication was condemned by Dayana Yastremskaya, captain of the Davis Cup team Andrey Medvedev, captain of the Billie Jean King Cup team Mikhail Filima. The Tennis Federation of Ukraine admitted that all accusations against Zukin are unfounded.

Recall that Zukin, summing up the match between the Ukrainian team and the United States (2:3) in the Billie Jean King Cup, spoke negatively about some Ukrainian tennis players, who, in his opinion, refused to participate in the duel with the Americans.

The functionary said that he “hopes that Ukrainian tennis players will change their attitude towards playing for the national team and will be patriots not only on Instagram.”

The match between Ukraine and Hungary in the framework of the Davis Cup World Group One will take place on September 15-16 in Vilnius at the SEB Arena club. At stake is a ticket to qualifying for the Davis Cup final.

The team included Vladislav Orlov, Vyacheslav Belinsky, Ilya Bezborodko and Vladislav Manafov. The leaders of Ukrainian tennis, Ilya Marchenko, Vitaliy Sachko, Oleksiy Krutykh and Denis Molchanov, remained outside the blue-yellow bid.
