Australian to play in US Open quarter-finals for the first time
Australian Nick Kyrgios advanced to the quarterfinals US Open 2022beating the first racket of the world Daniil Medvedev.
It took Kiryos four sets to win. The match lasted 2 hours and 56 minutes.
Medvedev, who plays under neutral status, failed to defend his last year’s US Open title and will leave the first line of the world rankings. Rafael Nadal could become world number one if Carlos Alcaraz or Kasper Ruud don’t become champions in New York.
Kiryos defeated Medvedev for the fourth time in five matches and the second time this year. The Australian will play in the quarterfinals of the US Open for the first time, having previously failed to go beyond the third round in New York.
For reaching the semi-finals, Kiryos will play against another neutral tennis player Karen Khachanov.
