“Bravo, Novak. Usually we stop counting at 3:0. I’ll try not to have 21:0, like in ping-pong,” Monfils wrote.
The last time Monfils met Djokovic was on May 3, 2022, in the round of 16 of the Mutua Madrid Open tournament. Novak beat his opponent with a score of 6:3, 6:2.
The score of 18:0 in personal encounters is an ATP record. Previously, only five confrontations had recorded a score of 17:0 in favor of one of the tennis players: Bjorn Borg – Vitas Gyarulaitis, Roger Federer – Mikhail Yuzhny, Rafael Nadal – Richard Gasquet, Ivan Lendl – Tim Mayotte and Roger Federer – David Ferrer.
