Ukrainian tennis players will play with Hungary on September 15-16
Ukrainian tennis team captain Andrey Medvedev shared his expectations about the upcoming match Davis Cup against Hungary. The former tennis player noted that there is a chance to win, although the Ukrainians are not the favorites of the confrontation.
“We will fight for our country with all our heart, although we are not favorites in the duel with the Hungarians. However, sport is not mathematics; the one with the best rating does not always win here. That’s what makes it so magical. In addition, we will play up to two winning sets and the ball is round. I believe that my players are real fighters, just like those who are now fighting on the front lines. We will do our best and try to refute previous predictions. After all, many predicted us a crushing defeat on February 24.
“Our country and its people are demonstrating an iron will to continue fighting for the final victory, but also fighting for victories on all fronts, and one of them will be in Vilnius one of these days. Sport is very important for us, Ukrainian defenders are looking forward to news about how we will play in the Davis Cup meeting and in general in all sports competitions in which Ukraine is currently participating.”
“Our players are really difficult psychologically. There are those who were not at home for the entire six months, who left at the beginning of the war or were already abroad when it all started. This is also difficult, the financial situation is also difficult, so indeed not all players have the opportunity to participate in competitions. Many of them lost not only the opportunity to train, but also the house. For example, Vladislav Orlov, who is in our team, he is from Kharkov, he has a destroyed house there.”
“It is impossible to fully focus on tennis, training, when these things are happening in your country. We thank tennis organizations, especially in Europe, who host our players so that they have the opportunity to train.”
The match between Ukraine and Hungary in the framework of the Davis Cup World Group One will take place on September 15-16 in Vilnius at the SEB Arena club. At stake is a ticket to qualifying for the Davis Cup final.
The team included Vladislav Orlov, Vyacheslav Belinsky, Ilya Bezborodko and Vladislav Manafov. The leaders of Ukrainian tennis, Ilya Marchenko, Vitaliy Sachko, Oleksiy Krutykh and Denis Molchanov, remained outside the blue-yellow bid.
On September 15, two singles will take place. The start of the broadcast on the Sport 1 TV channel is at 18:00. On September 16, Ukraine and Hungary will play a doubles game and two singles matches, and the show will start at 17:00.
