The Panama team does not have a preselection, or defined coaching staff for the tournament that will be held in Santiago del Estero starting Monday, August 14.
The Panamanian team, which, like Argentina, is part of group A of the Olympic Pre-Qualifying tournament, is uncertain about its participation in said tournament that will be held in our territory from August 14. The Panamanian federation did not inform the former coaching staff , led by Flor Meléndez, about his continuation or not at the head of the team, and it also has no players preparing for next week’s commitment.
The Panamanian Basketball Federation is in a difficult leadership situation, because Jair Peralta, its president, has completed his two processes in charge of it and cannot be re-elected. Because of this, the election that was supposed to be last month was postponed, so they don’t have a clear direction.
The words of Flor Meléndez
The last coach of the Panamanian basketball team spoke with Diego Ruscitti in the “Mixed Zone” program and said that they had no communication with him from the Federation. “I have talked to the players who want to travel and those who are available, but because there is no communication, they are all flying to their respective countries where they will play,” said the coach.
According to the Puerto Rican coach, the Federation requested money for the trip to the Panamanian Institute of Sports. However, even if the economic possibility exists to participate in the Pre-Qualifier, the main players of the Panamanian team will not be part of it, as most of them are committed to their teams.
