Yaxel Lendeborg outscores LeBron and Doncic in NBA start

Dominican forward Yaxel Lendeborg has produced a more prolific scoring start to his National Basketball Association (NBA) career than LeBron James, Luka Doncic, Kevin Durant, and Victor Wembanyama managed in their opening seven professional games. Only Michael Jordan, among five historic stars examined in a statistical review of early career production, recorded a higher scoring average across the same initial span.

Lendeborg, selected 11th overall in the 2026 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors, has accumulated 156 points through seven games, producing an average of 22.3 points per contest. The 24-year-old forward has also contributed 7.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 32.3 minutes per appearance for the franchise.

The rookie has converted 52 percent of his field goal attempts and 40.9 percent of his shots from three-point range, knocking down 18 three-pointers on 44 attempts. His true shooting percentage, a metric that accounts for two-point baskets, three-pointers, and free throws to measure overall scoring efficiency, stands at 64.5 percent.

Comparisons with Jordan and modern superstars

A comparison of opening regular season appearances shows Lendeborg outpacing four players who developed into the defining figures of the modern NBA. Michael Jordan remains the sole exception in the comparative study, having registered 174 points in his first seven games for the Chicago Bulls in 1984, averaging 24.9 points alongside 5.1 rebounds and 5.0 assists.

Durant began his career with the Seattle SuperSonics in 2007 with an average of 21.7 points per game, while Doncic recorded 20.4 points per contest for the Dallas Mavericks in 2018. James, who entered the league with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003, averaged 16.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 6.6 assists over his initial seven outings, and San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama posted 19.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in his opening stretch.

The statistical comparison involves an important demographic distinction. Lendeborg made his NBA debut at 24 years of age, whereas James, Durant, and Wembanyama each entered the league as teenagers. Doncic was 19 when he arrived from European basketball, and Jordan was 21 during his rookie campaign.

Milestone performances against the Clippers and Nuggets

Lendeborg delivered his most productive performance on Sunday, November 1, scoring 37 points, distributing six assists, and collecting four rebounds in a 124-112 Golden State victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. He converted 13 of his 19 field goal attempts, including six of 11 shots from three-point range, leading the offense while teammates Stephen Curry and Draymond Green were sidelined.

That display marked his second game of the young season with at least 30 points. On October 26, Lendeborg recorded 31 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists against the Denver Nuggets, becoming the first Warriors rookie to reach 30 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists in a single contest since Curry achieved the feat in February 2010.

The Dominican forward has scored at least 26 points in four of his past five appearances. Over that five-game sequence, he has averaged 25.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists, establishing himself as a reliable primary scoring option inside the Golden State offense.

League scoring standings and the rookie race

Lendeborg's cumulative total of 156 points places him ninth across the entire NBA in total scoring, level with Canadian guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Gilgeous-Alexander accumulated his 156 points in six appearances, while Lendeborg reached the mark in seven.

In terms of scoring average, Lendeborg ranks 21st in the NBA at 22.3 points per game, according to statistical rankings compiled by Land of Basketball. Ranking positions can vary slightly between basketball analytics databases because of different tiebreaker criteria and varying minimum game requirements used to filter league leaders.

Among first-year players, Lendeborg sits second in scoring behind Sacramento Kings guard Darius Acuff Jr., who leads all rookies with an average of 26.3 points through six games. Lendeborg ranks ahead of Chicago Bulls rookie Caleb Wilson, who has posted 21.2 points per contest across six games, and holds the highest scoring average of any rookie forward in the league.

Shooting efficiency and bounce-back resilience

Lendeborg's early impact is also reflected in advanced metrics, notably the Player Efficiency Rating, commonly known as PER. The rating system, developed by statistical analysts to measure a player's per-minute productivity while adjusting for team pace, sets the league-wide baseline at 15.0. Basketball analytics outlet Hoops Junkie ranks Lendeborg 26th in the NBA with a PER of 21.3.

His true shooting percentage of 64.5 percent illustrates remarkable scoring efficiency across all areas of the court. The rookie converts more than half of his field goal attempts while maintaining accuracy from deep, proving capable of scoring in varied offensive situations.

His early campaign has not been entirely without difficulty. On October 30, against the Los Angeles Lakers, Lendeborg endured a difficult night, finishing with six points, one rebound, five turnovers, and six personal fouls before fouling out in 24 minutes of action.

He responded 48 hours later with his 37-point display against the Clippers, demonstrating the resilience that has defined his rapid rise. Golden State holds a record of four wins and three losses in the seven games Lendeborg has played.

Lendeborg has started every game for the Warriors this season and stands as the team's second-highest scorer by average, trailing only Curry, who has averaged 29.2 points in five appearances. The Dominican forward has quickly become a pivotal figure in Golden State's rotation as the team navigates early-season fixtures in the Western Conference.
