Pre-season tournament and venue context

The Moscow Mayor Cup is an established annual pre-season ice hockey tournament held in late August. It serves as a primary preparation event for Kontinental Hockey League clubs, allowing coaches to test tactical systems and new squad members before official competition begins.

Megasport Arena, situated on Khodynka Field in Moscow, is a modern indoor sports venue with a seating capacity of over 12,000 for ice hockey fixtures. Opened in 2006, the arena routinely hosts major national and international ice hockey events alongside figure skating tournaments.

Kontinental Hockey League final matchup

Both teams compete in the Kontinental Hockey League, the top professional ice hockey league across Russia and neighboring nations. Dynamo Moscow is one of the most successful clubs in Russian hockey history, holding multiple Gagarin Cup titles in the Western Conference. Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg represents the Sverdlovsk region in the Eastern Conference as a regular playoff contender.

Dynamo Moscow will play Belarusian side Dinamo Minsk in the tournament decider. Based at Arena Minsk, Dinamo Minsk is the sole KHL representative from Belarus, setting up an all-Dynamo pre-season final ahead of the upcoming league campaign.
