President of the Computer Sports Federation: “We do not need isolation. We must be friends with those who are ready to do this on an equal footing.

President of the Russian Computer Sports Federation (FKS) Dmitry Smith announced his readiness to maintain contacts with organizations ready to cooperate on equal terms.

— In August, the Russian Computer Sports Federation canceled tournaments for the game “League of Legends” due to extremist symbols. Is there a risk of similar symbols appearing in Dota 2 and Counter‑Strike? What Russian analogues could replace these games?

— We stopped organizing competitions much earlier. Many games now actively use their digital platform to promote values that are not close to us. It’s not just extremism. Naturally, we do not use games prohibited by Russian law.

Is there a risk that other games will do something similar? Of course there are, because most of them are Western games. The question then arises: how do they perceive? Some people think this will benefit them in terms of marketing and start incorporating this type of content. Some people think it’s better not to include anything controversial. I don’t see any problems with such games in Russia.

As for the domestic analogue: it looks cool, but creating your own game takes several years and is very, very expensive. There are teams that produce such games in our country, but not all games become eSports games. Nowadays, there are very few domestic eSports games. Two years ago, there were half as many. We now also support this direction and try to ensure that the state pays attention to it.

But to hope that one day we will be able to isolate ourselves from society and live completely independent in everything… No, that’s not necessary. This won’t just happen in esports, nor in sports, it won’t happen anywhere. Once again, I suggest everyone not think that we will ever be able to isolate ourselves. We don’t need isolation. We must interact and be friends with those who are ready to be friends with us on equal terms. And there are many such countries in the world,” a correspondent reports Smith’s words.
