Former England manager Southgate talks about his future

Former England coach Gareth Southgate admitted that he wanted to take a short break from his career.

The British lost to the Spanish team in the final of the European Championship in Germany (1:2) and won the silver medal of the tournament for the second time in a row. After that, it became known that 53-year-old Southgate had decided to leave the national team.

– I’m not going to make a hasty decision. I have a lot of options, I’m open to whatever comes next. It can happen both in and out of football. I’m just going to take a break, restart, recover and then move on. I think at this point people understand that I need to get my energy back. I’ve had an incredible eight-year journey with the team and it’s been an absolute privilege to coach my country. “I’ve worked with great players and great staff,” Southgate was quoted as saying by Sky News.

Southgate has been in charge of England since 2016. As well as silver at two European Championships, the team’s best ever finish at a EURO, England finished fourth at the 2018 World Championships in Russia.
