Max Verstappen won the Dutch Grand Prix for the second year in a row, but admitted that victory was not easy for him.
Max Verstappen: “The race was not easy, we had to attack from start to finish. There was a safety car and a virtual safety car mode, so it was important to make the right decisions. We had some doubts, but when we switched to soft tires everything worked – the car regained excellent speed.
Before the safety car came, we had the opportunity to easily finish on a set of hard rubber, although we were a bit slower. But when the safety car took off, it became clear that if we didn’t make a pit stop, we wouldn’t keep the first position.
We decided to put on soft tires and I rolled back to third position. But George Russell also went to the pits. At the restart I had good acceleration and as our car has a higher top speed it helped to attack Lewis before the first corner. And after that everything went smoothly, because the car had a good balance.
We got another win, and it’s just great! Winning a home Grand Prix is always a special achievement. Last year it worked, but this year I had to put in even more effort. Incredible weekend and we are just happy!”
