Greece has reduced the gap to 11th-placed Czechia in the UEFA rankings following AEK Athens' 4-0 win against Levski Sofia to reach the Champions League.
The victory secured AEK a berth in the Champions League League Phase while adding 1,400 points to the Greek national coefficient, keeping 12th-placed Greece within striking distance of the top 10 European nations.
The UEFA coefficient system measures the performance of clubs from each member association in European competitions over a five-year period. Points accumulated by individual teams determine the number of qualification spots a country receives in future editions of the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League.
AEK UEFA coefficient points boost
AEK's decisive 4-0 victory over Bulgarian side Levski Sofia earned the Athens club 6,000 points toward its personal UEFA club coefficient. For the national overall total, Greece gained 1,400 points.
The national total comprises a 1,200-point participation bonus for AEK qualifying for the League Phase of Europe's flagship tournament, alongside 200 additional points for winning the match. The boost closed the margin between Greece and 11th-placed Czechia to fewer than 1,000 points.
Conference League prospects for Panathinaikos and PAOK
Attention now turns to Panathinaikos and PAOK as both Greek clubs seek to reach the Conference League League Phase. A major focus is Panathinaikos' upcoming clash with Czech team Hradec Kralove, where eliminating the Czech side would strip Czechia of one of its point-earning representatives in UEFA competition.
Greece currently holds 12th position in the UEFA standings with 43.412 points and all five of its original teams still active. Maintaining maximum club representation will allow Greece to apply further pressure on both Czechia and 10th-placed Poland.
Elsewhere, Olympiacos has already guaranteed its place in the Europa League League Phase. OFI is also close to securing a berth in the same competition after building a 3-0 first-leg advantage over Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia. Even if the Cretan side fails to advance against CSKA Sofia, its European campaign will continue in the Conference League League Phase.
