Juventus secured a 2-0 victory over Parma in Serie A at the Allianz Stadium, with second-half goals from Nico Gonzalez and Teun Koopmeiners earning manager Luciano Spalletti his second win of the season.
The Turin club came into the match following a 1-0 opening-day win against Frosinone, while visitors Parma had suffered a 1-0 defeat to Cagliari in their first game of the campaign. Both Kamil Grabara and Arkadiusz Milik watched the entire match from the substitutes bench for Juventus.
Neither side managed to create clear opportunities during a cagey opening 15 minutes, with threat limited primarily to set pieces. Douglas Luiz produced the first real opening in the 26th minute, sending a shot from the edge of the penalty area just wide of the right post.
Francisco Conceicao came closer to breaking the deadlock in the 33rd minute when his strike from the edge of the box struck the post. The Portuguese winger threatened again five minutes later, but fired a free kick high over the crossbar. Just before the interval in the 42nd minute, Zeki Celik directed a close-range header towards goal, which Parma goalkeeper Edoardo Corvi gathered without difficulty to keep the score 0-0 at half-time.
Goalless opening period at Allianz Stadium
Juventus continued to miss the target early in the second half. Jhon Lucumi sent an effort high over the crossbar in the 50th minute, before Jonathan David produced a similar high strike two minutes later. Kolo Muani then dragged a shot wide of the post in the 56th minute as the hosts struggled for accuracy.
The tide turned for Juventus from the 61st minute through players who had been linked with departures during the active transfer window. Nico Gonzalez opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, finding the net with a shot from the edge of the penalty box to put the hosts ahead.
Parma sought an immediate reply just a minute later when David Romero struck towards goal, but Juventus goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario produced a remarkable save to deny the visitors, with Polish goalkeeper Kamil Grabara remaining on the bench.
Teun Koopmeiners, another player linked with a move away from Turin, doubled the lead in the 88th minute with a late finish to make it 2-0. Juventus held on to celebrate victory without Grabara or Milik featuring on the pitch.
