Kylian Mbappé scored a bicycle-kick goal during his first training session under new Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho at the club's Valdebebas complex on Monday, and posted the strike on social media.
Mbappé is beginning his third season at Real Madrid. He finished the 2026 World Cup as the tournament's top scorer with eight goals and helped France reach the semifinals. Last season he scored 43 goals for Real Madrid, the highest tally in the squad, and Mourinho's plan for the coming campaign depends in large part on that number staying high while also becoming decisive when matches demand it.
New faces join the squad
Monday's session also marked the first appearance of Marc Cucurella and Ibrahima Konaté in front of their new teammates. Cucurella joins Real Madrid having just won the World Cup with the Spain national team, and met his new dressing room in person for the first time. Konaté, a France international defender, completed his first contact with the squad the same day after finalizing his move to the club.
Aurélien Tchouaméni also rejoined the group but trained inside the club's facilities as a precaution. Mourinho has now recovered almost the entire squad for preseason. Jude Bellingham remains on vacation following the World Cup and has yet to report.
Medical checks and missing players
Monday's session at Valdebebas also included the first part of medical examinations for the club's new signings, who will complete the remaining tests at Hospital Blua Sanitas Valdebebas. Yan Diomandé and Thibaut Courtois, who had already trained individually on previous days, joined the group session for the first time.
Four players remain outside the group. Raúl Asencio, Ferland Mendy, Éder Militão and Rodrygo Goes are still working through their respective recovery processes and have no clear date to return to training.
Preseason schedule before the league debut
Real Madrid have their route to the start of LaLiga mapped out. The club plays the Trofeo Teresa Herrera against Deportivo de la Coruña on August 12, then faces Germany's Schalke 04 in another preparation friendly four days later, on August 16.
The official season debut comes on August 22 at the RCDE Stadium in Cornellà, against Espanyol, in the second round of the league since the club rests in the opening matchday. Real Madrid will play their first home match of the regular season on August 26, hosting Real Sociedad. The transfer market may still reshape the squad before then.
