Sergey Ustyugov: “At the stages of the Russian Cup I put on a ‘limiter’, so I didn’t give my best 100%”

Olympic cross-country skiing champion Sergei Ustyugov says “”, at the stages of the Russian Cup he did not give his best 100%, as he had done before at the stages of the World Cup.

Ustyugov won the skating sprint at the Russian Cup stage in Chusovoy, at the Kirovo-Chepetsk competitions he became the second in the classic sprint.

– In view of your results at the Russian Cup, can we say that going on self-training was justified?

– At this stage it is too early to say, because I am deliberately preparing for the Russian Championship. We will draw conclusions later. Yes, in Chusovoy and Kirovo-Chepetsk we managed to get into the prices. Happy, but I did not do large volumes. The guys ran two stages of the Russian Cup, there was a small load, maybe that’s why I was so lucky.

Long distances were more difficult for me. When I ran on a tag with a skate and a classic, I didn’t give 100% like before, like it was at the World Cup. There was a kind of “limiter” that I adhered to. But at the same time, even so, I showed a decent result,” Ustyugov told .

– Should the peak of fitness fall on the Russian championship?

– I have not yet begun to make such a serious preparation, I have not rolled volumes. I will start on January 1. Let’s see how everything goes. Marcus (Kramer) said he would help with this, write a plan. For about a month, I train without a plan. What hinders: moving, I spend a lot of time with my family.

The Russian Ski Championship will take place from March 18 to 26, 2023.
