Former sports director of the Hungarian Figure Skating Federation Gurgen Vardanyan told how figure skating representatives in Europe have been treating Russian coaches lately.
The International Skating Union (ISU) has banned Russian athletes from competing under the organisation’s auspices due to the situation in Ukraine.
– Many Russian coaches now work in international tournaments. They bring their students onto the ice, representing different countries. Are they building barriers?
– There are no restrictions on coaches. Indeed, at each international competition you can meet coaches from Russia. Everyone is doing very well with each other. Over the past year, I haven’t seen any bad attitude towards such coaches from foreign colleagues, Vardanyan told .
Gurgen Vardanyan is a former Soviet solo skater. In 1987, he moved into coaching. From 2017 to May 2023 he worked for the Hungarian Figure Skating Federation.
