Sports lawyer Anna Antseliovich believes that the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva there is a good chance of retaining the 2022 Olympic gold in the team competition.
On Tuesday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) began closed-door hearings on appeals from the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA), the International Skating Union (ISU) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). against the decision of RUSADA in the athlete’s case.
“As we know, the hearings begin today and all parties will have time to speak. It takes 30-40 minutes to navigate each side. RUSADA will act as both plaintiff and defendant in another case. The three hearing days were not chosen by chance, but as part of the consolidated procedures. If time is short, it is possible to add an additional fourth day. As one can assume, each of the participants most likely declared their experts. These are people who have certain scientific knowledge and confirm the theory on which each party in question bases its position.
Frankly, I don’t know Mathieu Maisonneuve very well, because, as a rule, they try to choose Swiss people to represent their interests at the CAS. This is due to the fact that alongside the rules of international organizations, Swiss law is applied on a subsidiary basis.
Taking into account the requirements of RUSADA, it seems to me that we will talk about a significant reduction in all sanctions. I would of course like a complete absence of guilt, but in this sense everything is not so simple. But I’m just sure that minor fault or negligence must be established. I have every chance of keeping my Olympic medal,” Antseliovich said according to RT.
Valieva at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing helped the Russian team win gold in the team competition. Before the personal tournament, it became known that the banned drug trimetazidine was found during the doping test of the figure skater of the Russian championship. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) admitted the Russian to the individual competitions of the Games, where she took fourth place. However, the award of the winners of the team tournament has not yet taken place due to the investigation.
The closed CAS hearings on the Valieva case will take place on September 26, 27, 28 as well as September 29 (if necessary).
