The Uruguayan has been playing for the Madrid club since he was 18 years old
Atlético Madrid officially announced the signing of a new contract with defenders Jose Maria Jimenez.
The Uruguayan will remain a Mattress player at least until 2028. The 28-year-old’s previous deal expired in 2025.
Jimenez has been playing for Atlético virtually his entire adult career. He moved to the club from the capital of Spain more than 10 years ago, in April 2013, from the Uruguayan Danubio. He was 18 years old at the time.
Over the years, Jose Maria played 290 matches as a member of the Matrasnikov team, scored 12 goals, and gave 10 assists. He could have played much more if it weren’t for the injuries that have plagued him throughout his career. So, Jimenez received a previous injury (a crack in the tibia) in the summer and missed the start of the season because of it. In the recent Champions League match against Feyenoord (3:2), the Uruguayan did not participate due to a muscle injury.
In the Spanish Championship, the Colchoneros are fifth with 16 points after 7 matches. Diego Simeone’s team will play their next match on October 8 against Real Sociedad.
