Polish footballers enjoyed a prolific Sunday across Europe as Wiktor Nowak, Bartosz Mazurek, Adam Buksa and Dariusz Stalmach all scored for their respective clubs.
The evening was highlighted by a spectacular strike from Nowak in the Prague derby, where Slavia Prague defeated local rivals Sparta Prague 3-0 on away turf.
Nowak has been in outstanding form this season for Slavia, having registered three goals and an assist in five matches prior to the derby. In the 11th minute of the match against Sparta, the Polish midfielder reacted quickly inside the penalty area to collect a loose ball rebounded off a defender. Without hesitation, he struck a right-footed shot directly into the top corner of the net to give Slavia the lead.
Despite his goal, Nowak did not return to the pitch for the second half of the match. The mid-game substitution raised immediate questions over a potential health issue or injury for the player, although Slavia comfortably held on to complete their dominant three-goal victory.
Mazurek Opens Account for Salzburg
Further south in Austria, 19-year-old midfielder Bartosz Mazurek scored his first goal for Red Bull Salzburg in a 4-1 victory over Austria Vienna. Mazurek joined the Austrian Bundesliga side this summer from Polish club Jagiellonia Bialystok and quickly established himself in the starting line-up, starting five of Salzburg's last six matches.
Mazurek found the net in the 31st minute of the home fixture following a pass from teammate Abubakar Barry. His goal extended Salzburg's lead to 3-0 before the home team eventually wrapped up a 4-1 win. The result leaves Red Bull Salzburg sitting third in the Austrian Bundesliga table.
Buksa Seals Mallorca Victory
In Spain, striker Adam Buksa opened his goalscoring account for RCD Mallorca in a 3-0 home win against Ceuta in the second division. Buksa joined Mallorca on loan from Italian Serie A club Udinese during the transfer window in search of regular playing time after finding opportunities limited in Italy.
Mallorca were relegated from La Liga last season and are aiming to secure an immediate return to the top flight. Buksa made his debut for the club a week ago as a second-half substitute during a 2-0 defeat away to Granada. Against Ceuta, the Polish international entered the match in the 66th minute with Mallorca already leading 2-0.
In the 89th minute, Buksa demonstrated his characteristic aerial ability by heading the ball into the net to make it 3-0 and seal the victory for Mallorca. The late goal provided a reassuring buffer for the hosts as they secured three valuable points.
German League Breakthroughs
The successful day for Polish players began earlier in the afternoon in Germany. Midfielder Dariusz Stalmach scored his debut Bundesliga goal for Werder Bremen, having joined the German club ahead of the current season. Meanwhile, Mateusz Zukowski continued his fine form by scoring another goal for 1. FC Magdeburg in German league action.
