British boxer Raven Chapman has undergone emergency surgery for a brain haematoma after collapsing following a sparring session in Denmark on July 24.
Chapman unexpectedly collapsed during training and was airlifted to a local hospital. Doctors diagnosed her with a brain haematoma and cerebral oedema before performing emergency surgery that successfully stopped the bleeding and helped stabilise the swelling.
Following the procedure, Chapman was placed in a medically induced coma. Her management team stated that she has since been taken off sedatives and is continuing treatment while awaiting medically supervised repatriation to a hospital in the UK, where her rehabilitation is expected to take some time.
Medical update and repatriation
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by Chapman's team to help bring her back to the UK. Her family is currently in Denmark to support her recovery.
In a statement, her management team said: "Her doctors are doing everything they can to support her recovery, and we remain hopeful as she continues to fight through this incredibly difficult time." They added a request for privacy for her family.
Management stated this is the only update available at this stage, adding: "If there are any significant developments, we will share further information when it is appropriate to do so."
Tributes and title history
Chapman previously fought Skye Nicolson for the WBC world featherweight title back in 2024, with Nicolson winning by unanimous decision.
Nicolson commented on the update from Chapman's management, writing: "Praying for a speedy recovery. Can't believe this. Hearts broken for you champ. Keep fighting."
Frank Warren, founder of Queensberry Promotions and Chapman's former manager, released a statement on social media on Wednesday. Warren said: "Raven is fully in my thoughts this morning, I'm really hoping she can pull through and get home safely." He added: "Everyone at Queensberry is behind you Raven, we're all hoping you can pull through this."
