Australian boxer Skye Nicolson has signed with Most Valuable Promotions and will defend her WBC super-bantamweight title against Japan's Miyo Yoshida on August 29. The 10-round bout will take place on the undercard of the Mikaela Mayer versus Chantelle Cameron fight at bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham, broadcast live on Sky Sports.
The 30-year-old two-division world champion is a former Olympian who won a Commonwealth Games gold medal in 2018. Nicolson is the latest high-profile female boxer to join the promotional organisation co-founded by YouTuber Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, with her debut coming on the card titled MVPW-06: UK vs USA.
"Women's boxing is entering a new era, and I want to be right at the centre of it," Nicolson said. "My goal has always been to test myself against the very best and be involved in the biggest fights in women's boxing."
"I truly believe this move puts me in the best possible position to do exactly that," Nicolson added. "I'm excited for what's ahead and can't wait for this next chapter of my career to unfold."
WBC super-bantamweight title defense
Nicolson enters the ring with a professional record of 16-1 including 3 KOs following a victory over Raven Chapman, in which she demonstrated slick counter punching. She is searching for a fifth successive victory as she takes another step toward unifying the super-bantamweight division.
Yoshida, a three-time, two-division world champion from Japan, holds a professional record of 19-5 with 1 KO. The 10-round championship fight marks Nicolson's first appearance under the Most Valuable Promotions banner.
"Skye is one of the most recognisable athletes in women's boxing today," Paul and Bidarian said in a joint statement. "As a two-division world champion, Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Olympian and one of Australia's biggest stars, she represents the calibre of athlete we're building MVP around."
