Australian boxer Skye Nicolson has withdrawn from her WBC super-bantamweight world title defense against Japan's Miyo Yoshida after sustaining a training injury. The fight was set to mark her Most Valuable Promotions debut on August 29 in Birmingham.
The 30-year-old was scheduled to defend her belt on the undercard of Mikaela Mayer versus Chantelle Cameron at bp pulse LIVE. The bout was announced last week and was scheduled to air live on Sky Sports.
"I'm devastated to announce that, due to sustaining an injury in training last week, I have had to withdraw from my scheduled fight," Nicolson said in an MVP statement. "I'd like to sincerely apologise to Miyo Yoshida and her team for this delay. I have nothing but respect for Miyo and I'm looking forward to finally sharing the ring with her before the end of the year."
"A new date for my fight with Yoshida will be locked in very soon, and I can't wait to get back in the gym, back to full health, and back to doing what I love," Nicolson added. "Thank you to everyone for your continued support and understanding."
Changes to the Birmingham fight card
Following Nicolson's withdrawal, Luton's Tysie Gallagher has been drafted onto the main card of the August 29 show at bp pulse LIVE. Gallagher, who holds a 10-2 record, will compete against a yet-to-be-named opponent in an eight-round super-bantamweight contest.
In addition, India's No 1 fighter Neeraj Goyat, who has a 20-4-2 record with nine knockouts, will take on Germany's Yessin Koulai over six rounds at super lightweight. Koulai holds an 8-1 record with three knockouts.
Britain's Caroline Dubois will defend her WBC and WBO lightweight titles against Amelia Moore on the night. The card is made up entirely of bouts between female fighters from the UK and USA.
