Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard has filed for a restraining order against his youngest son, Daniel Ray Leonard, 25, after the younger Leonard allegedly tried to break into the family's home and violated an earlier restraining order.
TMZ reported on Wednesday that Daniel left Sugar Ray's property in the back of a police car after the Los Angeles Police Department said he had violated a restraining order. The report alleges Daniel tried to enter the residence by turning exterior door handles, though it is not clear whether he got inside.
According to the New York Post, Los Angeles County Court documents show Sugar Ray filed for another restraining order later that same day. In the filing, the 70-year-old boxing legend alleged his son is an addict and a thief who steals from the family every day.
In a handwritten declaration, Sugar Ray wrote that Daniel has overdosed four times and that hospital staff had to bring him back to life twice. He wrote that Daniel has stolen extreme amounts of money and valuable items and has stolen every day for years, and that Daniel has been a drug addict for at least seven or eight years, with his behavior worsening over time.

In February 2025, Bernadette Robi, Sugar Ray's wife, posted a photo of Sugar Ray and Daniel with a caption stating they would get through this faze.

Sugar Ray alleged in the filing that two separate incidents this month led him to seek the restraining order. He said one incident occurred at his Pacific Palisades home on May 19, describing a physical altercation in which Daniel pushed him and got ugly, and said police officers were needed and escorted Daniel off the property.
Sugar Ray said he was granted a temporary restraining order against his son, but that Daniel tried to enter the family home the very next day, leading to his arrest.
Family fears for safety
Sugar Ray wrote that he loves his son but that Daniel has become a danger to himself and to the family, adding that his wife is extremely afraid, along with his daughter Camille. He wrote that the family had not had a day of peace in nine years, which he called the reality of Daniel's addiction, and said he was scared for his family.
According to the New York Post, court records show a judge swiftly granted Sugar Ray's request and ordered Daniel to remain at least 100 yards away from Sugar Ray and Bernadette Robi.

The Leonards live in a sprawling $46.5 million estate in the Pacific Palisades. The restraining order runs until June 15, when a hearing is set to discuss a more permanent resolution.

According to jail records, a hearing on Daniel's alleged restraining order violation has been scheduled for June 25. Sugar Ray is believed to still live on the $46.5 million estate in the exclusive Upper Riviera area of Pacific Palisades, which has been listed for sale multiple times over the past few years but has not sold.

Family background
Daniel is the youngest son of Sugar Ray Leonard and his second wife, Bernadette Robi, and his fourth son overall. Sugar Ray had his first son, Ray Jr, with his first wife, Juanita Wilkinson, in 1973, before adding a daughter, Camille, with Bernadette. He and Bernadette then had two more sons, Jarrel and Daniel.
In February of last year, Bernadette posted a photo on Instagram showing Sugar Ray and Daniel standing together on a beach with Sugar Ray's arm around Daniel's shoulder. The caption read: "Happy Valentine's to my hearts!!! Love you both beyond and we will get through this faze!"
