Torreense made a decisive start to their inaugural European campaign on Wednesday with a 6-1 victory over Ukrainian side Kolos Kovalivka. The Portuguese club hosted the Ukrainian team in the first leg of their Women's Europa Cup first qualifying round tie.
The hosts dominated from the opening whistle and established a commanding 3-0 lead before half-time. A second-half surge ensured a comfortable win, putting Torreense in a strong position to reach the second qualifying round of the competition.
First half goals put Torreense in control
Hayes opened the scoring for Torreense in the eighth minute to put the home side ahead. Mendoza doubled the lead in the 24th minute before Konst added a third goal in the 35th minute to cap a clinical first-half display.
Konst scored her second goal of the match in the 54th minute to make it 4-0. Kolos Kovalivka pulled a goal back in the 58th minute when Konovalova scored a consolation strike for the Ukrainian visitors.
An own goal by Semkiv in the 86th minute gave Torreense their fifth goal of the night. Konst completed the scoring deep into stoppage time, finding the net in the 92nd minute to secure her second-half double and complete the 6-1 scoreline.
European progression and second leg details
Torreense entered the Women's Europa Cup after competing in qualification for the UEFA Women's Champions League earlier this summer. The Portuguese side dropped into the secondary European competition following a defeat against Italian club Juventus.
The victory comes as Torreense continue their busy start to the season across domestic and European fixtures. The club recently competed in the Portuguese Super Cup, where FC Porto defeated Torreense to claim the trophy.
The second leg between Torreense and Kolos Kovalivka will take place on 2 September. The match will be played in the Polish city of Stalowa Wola, which serves as the venue for the return fixture.
