Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok DLC Review

This new expansion, the biggest since launching Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, provides some additional value, but it doesn’t quite convince or take the step expected.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla received its third and largest expansion. dawn of ragnarok, while Ubisoft Sofia baptized this DLC, came with plenty of time to contribute to a year where fans of the legend won’t have a new installment. But does it add more than just useful life to a title that’s been a year and a half?

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok expansion review

The trigger that brings us through Norse mythology is another “dream” of Eivor, which will take us directly to the great foundry of the dwarves. So, we started a journey with the feeling that a wonderful world-left to us in the original game-opens up in front of us with a very interesting projection.

At first everything went well, we put ourselves in the position of Havi -Odin- and we entrusted ourselves with the mission to rescue our son Baldur, who had been kidnapped by Surtr, the fire giant. The first thing to say is that this new DLC is absolutely stunning and original on a visual level. The landscapes we traverse are not only cared for with care, but also have its own well-defined aesthetics.

We have a series of completely new powers and skills, in which we emphasize the possibility of obtaining the gift of fire or ice, which will allow us, for example, to walk on lava or be a bird, with all benefits to this mobility. indicates. .

The Dawn of Ragnarok expansion is already in the middle

But, once we are upside down in this new world, having succeeded in visual impact and are already accustomed to new things, it seems to us that Dawn of Ragnarok has no concrete substance in a game we’ve been walking for over 100 hours. There are visual updates, the opponents look different, but they behave the same. The mechanics, the missions, the exploration, have received a useful life time but not a rich development in other aspects.

One thing to acknowledge: not everyone thinks that a DLC should be disruptive and we are sure that Dawn of Ragnarok will delight fans of the legend who are just left wanting more.. But it is also undeniable that projection, the immense spectrum of possibilities first offered by the Nine Kingdoms, was used to make this expansion a mandatory step.

At the story level, regardless of whether it is a recurring topic for those accustomed to mythology, 30 hours seems too long for an argument that is deliberately not encouraging and does not give a sense of urgency to the fact that we was abducted with a child.

Conclusion and final consideration

It’s not fair because AC has a stamp and a particular shape, so we won’t mention the correct names but, at a time in the industry where there are games that redefine the way a story is told, where immersion and the will of the player can be shaped are counted, Dawn of Ragnarok seems like a missed opportunity.

But the possible negative aspect seen in these lines, does not cover the fact that the expansion follows, it is really nice graphically and that it adds useful life to a game that a lot of people like. If you are among these fans, Dawn of Ragnarok is a must buy.
