Former Russian Computer Sports Federation (FCS) President Alexander Gorbachenko in an interview with a correspondent noted that the International Computer Sports Federation (IESF), allowing Russian teams to perform with a flag and an anthem, corrected her own mistake, which she made in the spring of 2022.
Earlier, Russia’s FCS reported that the IESF allowed Russian teams to participate in international competitions with a flag and an anthem. On August 28, at the IESF congress, following a vote, the delegates overturned the decision of the congress of April 18, 2022, according to which Russian athletes could not participate in international competitions under their own flag . It should be noted that 32 delegates voted in favor of repealing the decision, 13 of them voted against and 25 delegates abstained.
– It’s a good sign, today I congratulated the FCC management for this on social networks. This is correct, because our federation occupies a serious position within the international federation. It was strange that colleagues succumbed to temptation and made such a decision last spring. The fact that they corrected their mistake is very good. It is not inherent in computer sports to adopt the negative experience and mistakes of Olympic sports. We are extraterritorial due to distance competitions, we have many clubs where Russians play with foreigners. I hope our guys will keep their positions and our teams will go to the World Championship in Romania with a good attitude. I hope they will bring back medals from there.
– Will the international federation manage, in one way or another, to transmit its position to the organizers of tournaments? Before ESL, PGL and others.
– They are commercial organizers of competitions, they are not regulated by the activities of the international federation. It does not apply to them. Here, as they say, you have to dance by the rules of business. You can’t do anything. But our guys have found a way out and are taking part in competitions. We will support their results and rejoice in their victories. Although it’s a commercial sport, they are our guys. We will live in these conditions,” Gorbachenko told .
The statement also adds that the congress rejected the proposal of the Ukrainian Computer Sports Federation to suspend the membership of the FCS of Russia in the IESF.
