Russian esports athletes Daniil Putrick Abdrakhmanov and Egor Swizzy Lusiko reported that Epic Games refused to pay them a $200,000 cash prize due to their Russian passports, Sportskeeda reports.
In August, Abdrakhmanov and Lusiko won the Fortnite FNCS 2023 Major 3: Europe – Grand Finals tournament. Tournament organizer Epic Games considers Russia “a region with limited access to prizes.” According to Russian esports players, they played on the territory of Belarus, which is not excluded from international esports tournaments.
— I understand we can’t play from a suspended country, but Swizzy and I played from a country that is allowed to play and receive prizes at tournaments. We live and play from Belarus,” Abdrakhmanov said.
The Russian player added that he had contacted Epic Games support, but the company had not yet agreed to transfer the winnings to a bank account in Kazakhstan.
