The head of the IOC spoke about the prospects of the eSports Olympic Games

Head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach said the esports community has received the news of the possible creation of the esports Olympics positively, noting that the IOC will rely on Olympic values when considering this issue.

In October, at the opening ceremony of the IOC session in Mumbai, India, Bach said a special commission would study the issue of creating e-sports Olympics.

“Beyond the Olympic Games, we are determined to fulfill our mission of making the world a better place through sport. » In line with the 2020+5 programme, we strengthen the role of sport in society, promote the Olympic values and improve lives through sport. We are also advancing the digitalization of the Olympic movement. The digital revolution, particularly artificial intelligence, and e-sport are our great opportunities. You have to grab them.

This is why the IOC eSports Commission is studying the creation of eSports Olympic Games. The eSports world was excited about this initiative. We are truly opening new horizons. Whatever form the eSports Olympics take, our conditions are clear. We adhere to our values – the Olympic values of peace, respect, non-discrimination and solidarity.

We want to harness the transformative power of AI to support athletes and advance sport. We are talking about finding talent, creating individual training methods and judging more objectively. The possibilities are endless, but we must mitigate the risks. On this basis, we can look to the future of the Olympic community with great confidence. One in all its diversity. We live our Olympic motto. We run faster, we set higher goals, we become stronger because we are together,” Bach said in a New Year’s speech published on the IOC YouTube channel.
