“The fact that it follows Ukraine’s example is not a good thing for the International Esports Federation” – Ishmuratova on suspending Russia’s membership

The International Computer Sports Federation (IESF) is not happy with the fact that it suspended the membership of the Russian Computer Sports Federation (RESF), following the example of Ukraine, double Olympic biathlon champion. Svetlana Ichmuratova.

Previously, the International Computer Sports Federation (IESF), after a complaint from the Ukrainian side, suspended its membership in the Russian Computer Sports Federation (RESF) due to the opening of RESF branches in Lugansk and Donetsk. At the same time, Russian players and teams will be able to participate in IESF tournaments in neutral status.

“These are already our regions, and we have the right to open sports divisions in our country. There are children everywhere. Children want to learn and develop, and we must provide them with this opportunity. I think it’s normal. And the fact that Ukraine sends negative signals quite often, we are already used to it and do not pay attention to it. But unfortunately, international sports federations are falling into the trap and following suit. Of course, this doesn’t make them look good. We must develop sport in all countries, and so that there is no discrimination based on nationality.

Are you allowed to participate in eSports competitions with neutral status? We have already decided on a neutral status: no one wants to humiliate themselves and no one will. We will wait for the moment when we play with the flag and the anthem. And not just perform, but also win. So let them wait,” Ishmuratova told the correspondent.

The suspension of the Russian Federation will remain in effect until the General Assembly of the IESF, at which the members of the organization decide whether to completely suspend the RESF or rejoin the organization, or until that the RESF eliminates the reason for the suspension.

Last August, the IESF allowed Russian teams to participate in international competitions with a flag and anthem. At the IESF Congress, based on the results of the vote, delegates canceled the decision of the Congress of April 18, 2022, according to which Russian athletes could not participate in international competitions under their own flag. 32 delegates spoke in favor of repealing the decision, 13 of them voted against and 25 delegates abstained.
