Danish Minister of Culture Jacob Engel-Schmidt commented on the participation of Russian players and teams in the tournament PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 By CS2which takes place in Copenhagen.

Engel-Schmidt called for Russian representatives not to be allowed to participate in international eSports competitions in connection with the war that the Russian Federation is waging against Ukraine.

“As long as Russia continues its illegal war of aggression in Ukraine, I do not believe that Russian athletes should be allowed to participate in international sports. This, of course, also applies to esports.”

“Even if it is a Romanian organizer [PGL], I would still like to call for the exclusion of Russian participation. I would also urge Royal Arena to be more critical of what they accept.”

3 Russian clubs took part in PGL Major Copenhagen 2024: Team Spirit (based in Serbia), Virtus.pro (based in Armenia) and AMKAL ESPORTS. Another Russian team, 9Pandas, misses the major due to visa problems.

In total, 18 Russian players representing five teams will play at the tournament in Denmark: G2 Esports, Cloud9, Team Spirit, Virtus.pro and AMKAL Esports.
