The International Esports Federation did not support the proposal to permanently ban Russians from international competitions

The International Cybersports Federation (IESF) did not support the proposal to exclude the Russian Computer Sports Federation from the organization and permanently ban Russian athletes from international competitions, the press service of the FCC of Russia reports.

The absolute majority of federations voted against.

The issue of the IESF’s January statement on suspending Russian FCC membership and banning Russian athletes from competing with official symbols was not included on the congress agenda .

On August 28, 2023, at the Congress of the International Computer Sports Federation (IESF), based on the voting results, delegates canceled the decision of April 18, 2022, according to which Russian athletes could not participate in competitions international under their own flag. 32 delegates then spoke in favor of annulling the decision, 13 voted against, 25 abstained. Thus, the Russian computer sports team could once again compete under its own flag, name and anthem. At the same time, at the congress, the proposal of the Ukrainian Computer Sports Federation to suspend the membership of the FCC of Russia in the IESF was rejected.

However, on January 18, 2024, the International Computer Sports Federation upheld the Ukrainian federation’s complaint regarding the activities of the Russian FCC in new regions and suspended the Russian Computer Sports Federation’s full membership in the ‘organization. In this regard, until today, Russian cyber athletes could only participate in international competitions organized under the auspices of the IESF in a neutral status.
