American fighter Mikaela Mayer and British rival Chantelle Cameron will headline the MVPW-06 fight card at the BP Pulse LIVE Arena in Birmingham on Saturday. The world title unification clash will see the winner cement their position among the top five female fighters in boxing history, according to Most Valuable Promotions chief executive officer Nakisa Bidarian.
The WBO, WBA, and WBC super-welterweight world titles will all be on the line in the headline bout. The showdown in the West Midlands will be broadcast live in the United Kingdom on Sky Sports and available for contract-free streaming on NOW.
Bidarian believes the high-stakes matchup carries historic significance for both competitors. "The winner cements themselves as one of the top five fighters in history," Bidarian told Sky Sports ahead of the event.
World title unification and historic stakes
Cameron already holds a strong claim to greatness following her epic two-fight rivalry with Irish boxing icon Katie Taylor in 2023. Cameron handed Taylor the first defeat of her professional career in Dublin before losing a narrow decision in their immediate rematch later that year.
Bidarian pointed to those historic bouts when assessing Cameron's standing in the sport. "Chantelle Cameron has to be considered one of the GOATs because she beat Katie Taylor, and she almost beat Katie Taylor a second time, and Katie Taylor undoubtedly is one of the GOATs of women's boxing," Bidarian said.
A victory for Mayer would similarly elevate her career to legendary status. "If Mikaela Mayer can go in there and beat Chantelle Cameron decisively, she'll be one of the GOATs," Bidarian added. "But Cameron is already one of the greatest of all time and whatever time she has left in her career, she's going to be one of the faces of the sport alongside Mikaela as well."
Both fighters enter the arena with remarkable professional records. Mayer, a 36-year-old former Olympian from Los Angeles, holds a record of 22 wins and two losses. Cameron, a 35-year-old native of Northampton, boasts 22 wins and just one loss in her career.
The super-welterweight division carries a weight limit of 154 pounds. The winner of Saturday's bout will hold three of the four major recognized world titles in the division, leaving them just one belt short of undisputed status.
The future of women's boxing
Saturday's card arrives at a transitional moment for female combat sports. Taylor is just one farewell fight away from retiring from professional boxing. Meanwhile, Puerto Rican star Amanda Serrano is pursuing the women's knockout record and her 50th career win before concluding her career.
With Taylor and Serrano nearing retirement, Bidarian expects a vacancy at the top of the sport. However, given that Mayer is 36 and Cameron is 35, Bidarian believes the next era will be led by younger talent featured on the Birmingham card.
"When I think about the future, when Amanda and Katie transition into the next phase of their personal lives and professional careers, we have other fighters on this card that are going to represent that movement, starting with Caroline Dubois," Bidarian said.
Caroline Dubois vs Amelia Moore co-main event
In the co-main event, 25-year-old British fighter Caroline Dubois will defend her WBC and WBO lightweight titles. Dubois, who fights out of London and won gold at the Youth Olympic Games, faces unbeaten American opponent Amelia Moore.
Moore enters the ring with a clean 4-0 professional record. She brings a rich amateur pedigree and previous experience competing in the Team Combat League, a specialized team boxing format in the United States.
Bidarian cautioned against overlooking the challenger despite her short professional resume. "It's going to be a very exciting fight week and fight night," Bidarian said. "Alycia Baumgardner will be there, but Caroline has a very formidable opponent ahead of her. You cannot discount Amelia Moore just because she's 4-0."
Bidarian emphasized Moore's background as a dangerous factor in the fight. "She has a rich amateur pedigree," Bidarian said. "She's also competed in Team Combat League, which is a different boxing product in the US, and she's a strong athlete."
Ringside presence and upcoming challenges
Adding extra intrigue to the co-main event is the presence of American super featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner, a long-time rival of Dubois who will be sitting ringside at the BP Pulse LIVE Arena.
Baumgardner recently dismissed the prospect of fighting Dubois after winning her bout against Bo Mi Re Shin. Instead, Baumgardner publicly called out Taylor and Serrano for major legacy fights.
Despite the distraction of Baumgardner's presence at ringside, Bidarian urged Dubois to keep her full attention on Moore inside the ring. "I'm focused on what happens on fight night. I think it's an absolute challenge for Caroline. It'll be interesting to see what version of Caroline Dubois we get," Bidarian said.
